The image is of a Palestinian woman wearing a hijab while holding a Palestinian flag. She is dressed in black with a red tatreez border, and her hijab is white and black. The background shows a sky with clouds.

So as many who follow me on Instagram as The Powerlifting Social Worker I have been very outspoken about supporting Palestine , the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, Tigray, Etc and any other region experiencing genocide and violence. Recently I asked my followers about any topics for my next substack article and one of them was about the link between what is happening in Gaza and fatphobia.

So me being me I want to not only share my thoughts on this but expand it beyond Gaza/Palestine to also include the genocides in Congo, Sudan, Tigray, etc. So how is fatphobia or antifatness connected to genocide? As a Fat and Black Liberationist I believe that all systems of oppression are connected. As Audre Lorde states

I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own. And I am not free as long as one person of Color remains chained.”

―Audre Lorde,Sister Outsider: Essays and Speeches

Fannie Lou Hamer said it best when she stated:

“Nobody’s free until everybody’s free.”
